Dusseldorf: You Goethe Your Way
Germany's wealthiest city, Dusseldorf is a city of skyscrapers and industry located on the Rhine. The city itself spreads across both sides of the river and all industry has been designated to the left side of the river while the right banks of the Rhine will allow visitors a look at the culture and traditions of this lovely city. Magnificent bridges connect the right and left banks giving easy access to both parts of the city. Along the banks of the Rhine, on both the right and left, are lush parks, perfect for picnics and strolls.
One of Dusseldorf's must see attractions is the Goethe Museum. This museum, founded and supported by the Kippenburg Foundation, sees its mission as that of collecting and preserving the many works of Goethe. The Goethe Museum has more than over one thousand items on display ranging from private papers to paints and from medals to china. Many first drafts of his most famous poems are included in the museum's collection.
If you are in the city around the Easter holidays you will not want to miss Dusseldorf's carnival. This Carnival is one of the largest to be celebrated anywhere in Europe.
